Resetting Passwords

Members frequently ask us to reset their passwords despite the prominent "Request new password" tab on the login page. It's generally easier to assign them a new password than it is to walk them though the self-service process. The steps:

  1. Make sure the requestor's email matches our records by using https://www.iac.org/user-list or https://www.iac.org/user-by-email
  2. Click on the account name to pull up their membership record
  3. Click on the "Edit" tab
  4. Click on the "Profile" link to see their additional info and note the zip code (or postal code in this case, since Desmond is Canadian)
  5. Click the browser's back button to return to editing their membership record
  6. Type the new password in the "Password" and "Confirm password" fields, then click "Save"
  7. Convey the new password to the member

If the user exceeds the maximum of five login attempts, Drupal locks them out for six hours. The only way to remove that lock is to follow the proceodure at https://www.drupal.org/node/1023440
